SHADOW LANTERN WORKSHOP

With Sandie Brayman

Investigate the interplay of paper and light. Participants will cut stencil shapes out of opaque paper, back the lantern panels with translucent paper, and see what happens with both daylight and candlelight.

INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHY

After a generation as a stay-at-home mom, Sandie completed her undergrad degree in studio art in 2006. Learning felt intoxicating, so she continued taking classes and workshops. At Ox-Bow she was introduced to paper making. The combination of preserving historic processes, applying familiar household skills, and developing unusual means of artistic expression all worked together to capture her interest. She traveled around visiting various paper making studios, assembled her own home studio, and eventually taught a variety of workshops. Sandie spent most of her life in Michigan, but after a few years of wandering, settled in the Scottsville area in 2017. Although her paper making studio remains in storage, Sandie still enjoys learning and teaching, which often happen at the same time.
